The NSSLHA Executive Council (EC) met virtually, March 25, 2023. Here, you’ll find the Summary Report of the meeting.

Executive Council members in attendance were President Gabrielle Howard, President-Elect Hailey Kingsbury, Vice President for Finance Izabelle Pinzon, Vice President for Planning Emily Lee, Vice President for Academic Affairs Tynashia Whitaker, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Sheila Mathew, Vice President for Programming (AuD) Whitney Bauman, Vice President for Programming (SLP) Rachel O’Brien, Vice President for Student State Officers (Western Region) Sierra Morrow, Vice President for Student State Officers (Central  Region) Adriana Garcia, Vice President for Student State Officers (Northeastern Region) Emilia Gorecki, Vice President for Student State Officers (Southern Region) Allison Buroker, and NSSLHA National Advisor Dr. Belinda Daughrity.

NSSLHA Senior Director Alexis Redmond, ASHA Chief Staff Officer for Multicultural Affairs Megan-Brette Hamilton, ASHA Chief Executive Officer Vicki Deal-Williams, 2019-2020 National NSSLHA President Teffany Ventura and guest speaker, Jada Augustine were in attendance.

Opening Remarks

The Spring 2023 NSSLHA Executive Council meeting was called to order at 11:01 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 25, 2023, by President Gabrielle Howard.

Leadership Activity

Kingsbury led a team building activity with all council members.

ASHA’s CEO Q&A

Chief Executive Officer Vicki Deal-Williams joined the meeting to discuss current activities at ASHA.

Cultural Competence and Humility

Hamilton joined the meeting to discuss cultural competence and humility and how to apply it as a student and professional.

Leadership Development: Allyship and Resilience

Daughrity led a discussion on allyship and resilience. Council members offered strategies they would employ as effective allies.

Leadership Workshop: Transition from Student to Professional

Daughrity led a discussion along with guest panelists Ventura and Augustine on resumes, career paths, and negotiating professional challenges.

Student Leadership Application & Review

Council members discussed criteria and plan for the selection of the 2023-2024 Executive Council slate.

Strategic Plan Update

Lee reviewed the key performance indicators (KPIs) for the 2020-2022 Strategic Plan and reported that progress toward desired outcomes is on track.  The Executive Council voted unanimously to extend the 2022-2022 Strategic Plan and related initiatives through December 31, 2023.

National Advisor and National Office Updates

Daughrity provided an update that included a reminder about the ASHA Convention call for papers. Redmond provided an update on membership, programs, and national office activities.

Executive council members provide updates on projects and personal achievements.

Closing Remarks

The meeting was adjourned at 3:01 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 25, 2023.
